Oh my goodness. Did you see '24: Redemption'? Seriously. It's really good. Totally fantastic. Ok, so it's not as amazing
as the actual show (it feels like a bridge between seasons, which is it's purpose) but it's still pretty intense. All that
angst! Season reruns might satisfy your Jack lust for a while but they don't compare to the actual thing. And I am so, so
ready for season 7. Did you see the preview for it after 'Redemption'? It's totally wicked! Dude! This season's going
to kick some ass! It better, because even though I liked season six, I didn't love it and it was by far the weakest season
(I can't say worst because it isn't horrid; I just can't be really negative with these shows. It's just not possible.).
So season 7 is so totally going to rock! If I must be honest, the only purpose last night's '24' served was to bridge seasons
six and seven and to ease our suffering from a lack of Jack. Sure it introduces characters and plots but other than that
there's not too much point. But this also stands in place of the '24' movie that they were thinking about doing and honestly,
I'm glad they didn't do. This is so much better. It seems like an extra super long version of the previews that they give
you for the coming season tucked into every special features disc of '24' DVDs. There's almost always a little five to ten
minute clip where they kind of bridge last season with the new season, and this feels like a better, more exciting version
of this. With regards to introducing new faces and places, while they could have simply thrown us into the middle of things
like they did in season six (introducing new plots and people in the season premier) this works better because now you can
build on these themes and plots and you don't have to waste a lot of time doing introductions in the beginning few episodes.
And so now we can have more fun stuff! It was rather Jack-lite, but it balanced the scenes in Africa with the scenes in Washington
and it works out in the end. There's about 20 minutes of Jack, then 20 minutes in Washington, and back and forth. And really,
if you balance it all out, if it had been a real one hour episode, it would have been pretty Jack-heavy, so it's ok. And
while it didn't entirely leave you out of breath at the end (although that ending was pretty awesomesauce; there was some
angst there; would they keep the kids behind and just take Jack or not??) there were some moments of intense angst and lots
of fast paced action. It was well crafted and tightly paced, with good directing and good ideas. I like how we get to see
Jack in a different light, more humane and away from his native L.A. and CTU (though I will miss CTU quite a bit). Jack unleashes
a few Jack attacks but you also get to see his softer side which in truth we don't really get to see much (unless someone
dies). There are some good characters here which sadly get killed off (Poor Carl. Carl was cool. That was some high class
acting and it was way too sad when Jack had to leave Carl to die. I recognize that guy from somewhere but I can't quite place
it; off to IMDB!). Those child actors were fantastic. I hope they come back (although that seems unlikely). I like the
plot that's unfolding here, how a coup in Africa is going to bring hell upon the U.S. and Jack's caught in the middle of it.
The corrupt big shot moneymaker millionaire people trying to befriend terrorists isn't new (see season 5) but I'm interested
to see how everything unfolds. Did anyone else feel like they were watching 'The Last King of Scotland' at first? There's
nothing wrong with that, but there are similarities. The man who plays Dubaku is channeling Forrest Whitaker. And the beginning!
Woah. I must say that I kind of like the new president, although I will reserve judgment because as this show has taught
you, trust no one. I kind of feel sorry for her because I don't think she really knows what she's getting into (the terrorism
that's coming, and even the subplot with her son and his now dead friend). I've noticed that some of these presidents are
all gung ho about leading the U.S. and get all patriotic and sometimes even think that they are awesome and can handle anything
(see Prescott in season 2) but then they get a really rude awakening in the cruelest sense of all (namely, terrorists attack)
and they realize that they totally underestimated the bad guys and their cockiness is killing people. So I wonder how she'll
hold up. It felt wonderful to see Jack again, and I was even pleased to see Tom Lennox and Noah Daniels back again (although
I'm glad he's not president anymore, the slimeball). Everyone else is new, but it's still '24'. It wouldn't be '24' without
Jack. It might not be the best '24' episode ever, but it's still really, really good. I admit that there's probably bias
on my part and maybe it really wasn't as good as I'm claiming, but I don't care. '24' fans will be pleased. Non fans won't
care but who cares? You should see this. It's awesome. I can't wait until January. It will be awesome. Trust me.
p.s. I noticed something awful while watching this--Jack's green hoodie and his green man purse/ammo bag are gone!! No!!!
This is not cool! They are Jack Bauer wardrobe staples! There is infinite sadness and I can't believe he left them behind
somewhere! Writers!!! PLEASE!! Bring them back!!!!
p.p.s Frank is an idiot. I hate Frank. He was willing to sacrifice leaving the boys behind only so he could get Jack.
Stupid S.O.B.
